Carrie Barr

Carrie is one of Australia’s most versatile performers in Opera and Music Theatre
with a career spanning over the last 30 years. She has established herself as a
vocal teacher and mentor to many young professional singers and University
Graduates and Masters students at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music
Melbourne passing on her many years of professional experience and solid vocal
technique.

Lammermoor', 'Aida', 'Otello', 'Madame Butterfly', 'Marriage of Figaro', 'Tosca’,
‘Don Carlo’, ‘Faust’, ‘Un Ballo', ‘The Merry Widow’, 'The Rake's Progress', 'Lakme',
'Mozart's Requiem', 'The Gondolier's', 'HMAS Pinafore/Trial by Jury', 'Mikado',
‘Pirates of Penzance’ (VO & OA) 'Die Fledermaus' and 'Software' & 'The Sound

Carrie has played many leading roles in Australian productions including 'Les
Miserables (Cosette)', ‘Cats’ (Jellylorum), Mary Poppins (Annie/Bird Woman/Mrs
Brill cover) ‘Hair’ (Sheila), 'Return to the Forbidden Planet’ (Gloria), 'The Dusty
Springfield Story' (Dusty’s Alter Ego), 'Ain't Necessarily Rowe', 'Hey Hey It's
Cinderella', ‘Nine’, 'Crusade The Concert' (Catherine), 'The King of Country’ (Vicki),
'Metro Street' (Sue Barnes), ‘Nostrodamas’ (Marie Nostrodamas), ‘Sideshow Alley’
(Cleo-Snake Charmer), 'Jerry Springer the Opera' (Baby Jane cover) and
'Carousel'(Carrie), where she won a Green Room award for 'Best Supporting
Actress in a Musical’ for her role as Carrie.
Carrie was musical director and pianist for Shaun McCallef’s show “The Pleasure
of Their Co.” which also won ‘Best Comedy Show’ for the Adelaide Theatre Guide
Awards.
Her TV credits include the character of Jenny McKenna in Neighbour's from 2005 -
2006. Carrie was also a regular singer on ‘Good Morning Australia’ with Bert
Newton and sang on ‘The Ray Martin Midday Show’. Her voice was heard every
Sunday for 2 years on the opening and closing credits of “The Sunday Arts
Program’.
In 2020, Carrie will be performing in Madame Butterfly, Lohengrin and Atilla with
Opera Australia for their Autumn season in Melbourne.
