Roxane Hislop

 

 

Roxane Hislop studied at the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music Opera School and went on to win the prestigious Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, the Inaugural AIMS Scholarship, the Dame Mabel Brooks Scholarship and the Sydney Sun Aria Award, and also represented Australia at the National finals of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions in New York. Roxane was awarded the Victorian Green Room Award for best female artist in a supporting role for her performances as Maddalena in Rigoletto and Olga in Eugene Onegin. She has performed over 40 roles for Opera Australia including Carmen, Pericole, Rosina, Dalila, Guilietta, Siegrune (Die Walküre), Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana), Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Meg Page (Falstaff) and Maddalena (Rigoletto).

 

In 2010 Roxane performed in Victorian Opera and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's Opera Showcase at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and returned to State Opera of South Australia to sing Gertrude in Hänsel and Gretel. She also sang the role of Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro for Opera Under the Stars at Brisbane Festival along with Sing Your Own Opera and the Christmas Concert for Victorian Opera. Roxane's 2011 roles included Third Lady in The Magic Flute for Victorian Opera and Mistress Bentson in Lakmé for Opera Australia, as well as performing in Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius for the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic.

 

2012 engagements include the Stepmother in Victorian Opera's Cinderella pantomime, Baba the Turk in The Rake's Progress, Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, multiple roles in the new opera Midnight Son and Morning Melodies concerts.
